Votes for merge
[edit]Yes! I had to go through an extra page to get the information I needed, since it wasn't on the original Noel page. -- unsigned comment by defunct account
Merge vote: Yes. I would expect Noel to redirect to Noël, just like I'd expect Motley Crue to redirect to Mötley Crüe... which it does! I'd think it would suffice to have a reference to why the umlaut doesn't commonly appear in the English "noel". --BlueNight 22:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. That's three votes. Spirit Stiff 04:59, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- If they are merged, I think that that would be helpful. --Joe SchmedleyTalk/Ubx\Contribs 03:13, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Not semitic
[edit]"Noel" is from the latin, via greek, and ultimately sanskrit -- not semitic
- "Noël" late 14c., from M.E. nowel, from O.Fr. noel "the Christmas season," variant of nael, from L. natalis (dies) "birth (day)," in Eccles. L. in reference to the birthday of Christ, from natus, pp. of nasci "be born" (Old L. gnasci; see genus). also sp. nacimiento, Navidad...from latin nasci, gnasci "to be born," (source: Etymological dictionary online)

- I have found another use of the word in the medieval period. There is mention of the word being shouted as a salutation, by a crowd, to a returning victorious king or military leader on parade and entering a city, especially in france during the period. This suggests that there is another use/origin for the expression. Does anybody have any information?Miletus (talk) 10:55, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Link to song & lyrics needed
[edit]Because the song of the same name, "The First Noel", is often the only time the word, Noel, is spoken (in US anyway), a link to the song and/or section with lyrics is needed.Theaternearyou (talk) 20:26, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Lyrics are not needed, wikipedia is not a lyrics reference unless it is vital to the articles meaning. Tkent91 (talk) 06:01, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
The page seems to be in the midst of being vandalized
[edit]Hi, I'm not a registered user, but I would like to state that the page is seemingly currently being vandalized by a user by the name of "Noel paul babu." They are deleting all the content off of this page and replacing it with a short biography of what is assumedly themselves. I have been reverting edits as soon as they are being made. Apologies if this is not the place, I don't know where else to put it. 111.95.16.71 (talk) 13:04, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
