Rumours that Owens Park Tower is to be demolished

There have been persistent rumours that OP Tower will be demolished for several years. It seems that this is not planned, and I edited the article to reflect this.
I'm not convinced how reliable they are, but my sources are:

Student Direct reported:
"It has been confirmed that the notorious Tenement Tower will not demolished [sic] for the time being, as it is being saved in favour of a mass refurbishment programme. Plans to destroy the tower have been continually mooted over the last five years, however plans were laid to rest for the final time after a student focus group, working alongside University accommodation officials, decided that the tower was irreplacable as a hub of student social activity."
(However I could not find the referenced story on the Student Direct website.)

Beginning of the BOP

"...the last ever BOP took place on 25 January 2013, bringing an end to its 25-year run." Chemical Brothers at the BOP?

"The BOP is known on a larger scale for being the venue of the Chemical Brothers' first gig."

Is this really the case? I can find no evidence of it. To be the first gig of the Chemical Brothers (rather than The Dust Brothers), it would have to be 1995 onwards.

I wonder if there is a grain of truth in the assertion though? I was the Social Secretary of OPSA for two years in the early 90s and therefore one of the 2 people responsible for the running of events. Ed Simons tried out as a DJ for me at the BOP, I think for 2 weeks. (Often DJs would approach me and ask for spots).

Fast-forward to 1995 and I was working for Concert Systems, a PA company and was on tour with The Prodigy. At Brixton Academy, the last date before Christmas, The Chemical Brothers were supporting. Ed saw me and said he recognised me. I said it was maybe because I had been at Piccadilly Records in Manchester setting up the PA for their appearance there for the launch of Exit Planet Dust. Remembering, he said 'No - you sacked me!' recalling his short stint DJing at the BOP. I suggested that perhaps if I hadn't, he wouldn't be where he was today, to which he didn't answer!
