Discussion

[edit]

These discussion boards are not designed for Red Sox vs Yankee flaming folks. Show some respect for Wikipedia, would you get into a Red Sox vs Yankee argument in the middle of a library? Alkivar 23:47, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

In a word: Yes. Yes I would. (3 words)

Of course we would. GreatGatsby 04:42, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
in a library? yes. it's not even really a choice; Sox fans are genetically predisposed to sensing Yankee fans drawing near. -Nosirrah Yendor 00:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wherever you meet them, you have to make an argument.
Wait, when has a Yankees fan been in a library? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.191.165.226 (talk) 18:23, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"The Base"

[edit]

I removed a reference to Roberts's game 4 steal as "The Base", because that name isn't widely applied to that particular play. I HAVE seen it referenced on several occasions as "The Steal", though I don't know whether that usage is sufficiently widespread to be worthy of inclusion, either. -Colin Kimbrell 15:52, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's known throughout Boston as "The Steal."--142.157.132.82 14:19, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"first team in professional sports history" to pull off the comeback down 3 games to none

[edit]

The Toronto Maple Leafs came back from 3-0 down to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-games-to-3 in their best-of-seven series in the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals and the New York Islanders duplicated the feat in 1975 during the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. So I edited the line to "first team in professional baseball history." However, I have no idea if it has happened in baseball at the minor league level so to be 100% accurate that line might benefit from being further edited to read: "first team in Major League Baseball history..." Jimsurge74 17:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It just kept bugging me... so I edited it again to "Major League Baseball history." When I get a spare moment I'll look into if it ever happened in the minor leagues. Jimsurge74 16:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for File:2004ALCSLogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:2004ALCSLogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:02, 25 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 23:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:2004ALCSLogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:2004ALCSLogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?

Announcers

[edit]

I think the announcers for the 2004 LCSes are mixed up. Didn't Joe (and company) announce the ALCS while Thom (and company) announce the NLCS? 199.71.183.2 17:08, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Bri[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

This article seems heavily biased in favor of the Red Sox (of which I am a fan). I cleaned some stuff up like "Schilling, in a valiant effort....", and the fact the 0-3 deficit comeback was mentioned at least 3 times in the article.

I know they won, so it's hard not to make them look like the better club, but let the facts tell the story, don't dramatize it. 162.136.192.1 (talk) 20:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mis-quote?

[edit]

There's a quote attributed to Johnny Damon: "What's hard to believe, it was almost exactly one year ago tonight that Aaron Boone hit that home 11th inning home run to beat the Red Sox, to get for some reason it seemed predetermined that would be right back here a year later for a rematch of sort." - Unless I'm missing some nuance of American English, that doesn't seem to be correct (or maybe it was just mis-spoken?). The two references are both to DVDs. I know nothing about this game so I'd appreciate it if someone who actually knows what they're talking about could double-check this. Derek Lowe

[edit]

This comment in the Game 7 section " Lowe, who had significant bullpen experience for the Red Sox, was never even intended to be a starter in the postseason." is misleading at best. While it's true that Lowe had significant bullpen experience, he had been pitching as a starter for the 2002,2003 and 2004 seasons during which time he won 52 games as a starter. He was clearly intended to be a starter in the postseason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bwanab (talkcontribs) 13:35, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Put historical importance of series up top

[edit]

This is widely regarded, even by people with only a passing interest, as the greatest baseball series of all time. Several outlets call it the greatest comeback in the history of sports!

That deserves mention in the first paragraph of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curedwales (talkcontribs) 05:01, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
