[edit]I wonder what is the source for Uruguay's code change in 2012. Yurinsm (talk) 08:52, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- I couldn't find anything that backs it up, so I'm going to revert it to ROU. Yurinsm (talk) 16:33, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Austria
[edit]"Au"?? Really?? WTF?? I'm changing this to "A" because that is the only thing I've ever seen, and I've seen *hundreds* of "A" stickers on Austrian cars, while they were still in use. --BjKa (talk) 10:04, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Single-letter codes
[edit]Part of the reasoning behind code assignments seems to have been that countries whose cars were expected to be most often driven in other counties at the time were assigned the shortest codes, though this hasn't been consistently adhered to. It would be nice if someone could find information on this... AnonMoos (talk) 08:13, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
[edit]I just added a note to the GB entry about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the plans it has to stop using GB and to revert back to using UK in the near future MrFrood2 (talk) 16:42, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
1910
[edit]For reference - can this be added to the main article please.
Seems that the early country codes were first added through the "International Circulation of Motor Vehicles 1909" in Paris and later ratified in the UK in 1910. Hence all the countries with 1910 as the date.

Oman
[edit]I might be mistaken but I do believe 'OM' is Oman's official UN road code. Any ideas or further information on that?
- Oman does not appear in the UN official list of codes. Mauls (talk) 21:43, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Cheers! It should be removed then from the list then. Gregori-luxair (talk) 11:08, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
Turkey
[edit]I live at Turkey, and i can say that it is easy to recognise another countries by looking at plates, not even the blue part (country part), unless it starts with 04,thats RKS (republic of kosovo). All Turkish car plates starts with 2 digits that shows the province's.If it is gonna be 1 to 9,it will still be two digits (starting with 0). Thank you for your time. 95.10.23.152 (talk) 16:40, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

[edit]When have these countries officially changed their codes to 'RN' and 'RP' officially? Because they still appear as 'NIG' and 'PI' respectively under the UN list[1].

Coincides with ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code. In separate column
[edit]Better to have "Coincides with ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code." as separate column in the table with values: 2 , 3 , no , ? . alpha-2 code alpha-3 code in values can confuse a reader. ММЛ (talk) 09:06, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, that would make more sense to be honest. 136.173.62.129 (talk) 15:24, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
